An outstanding figure in tho Marlborough community and pastoral industry in the person of Mr. Charles de Vero . Teschemaker-Shute passed away at his • residence at Avondalo on Sunda3 r , says a Press Association telegram from Blen-i hoini. Ho waß chairman of the New Zealand "Wool-growers' Association, a member of the Otago Provincial Council, a member of the Wairau Road Board, and for several years a local director of the Farmers' Co-operative Association. Deceased was 85 years of ogc. He attended a wool conference at Wellington a month ago, and on its, conclusion proceeded to Christchurcli, returning to Marlborough overland. The extended journey told severely on his ihealth, and when lie reached homo he was laid no with the illness which onded in- his death. Mr. W. Cable and his two daughters returned from a. visit to England, America, and the Continent by the Cormthio yesterday. '• Mr. L. C. Levick, the Union manager at Lautoka, arrived with his wife by the Ulimaroa from Sydney yesterday on holiday leave. A Press Association message states that at the apnual meeting of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association of Canterbury, the chairman announced that tho general inanagor, Mr. E. AV. Kelph, had been appointed supervisor of tho association's business- activities, and the assistant general manager, Mr. A. J. Jamieson, had been appointed general manager. Mr. Appo Hocton, who recently celebrated his 100 th birthday, died at Dovedale (reports a Nelson Press Association telegram). Ho was one of Nelson's earliest settlers, arriving in 1842. He first lived in the city, but for over '40 years had .been farming at Dovedale,
