DAIRY FACTORY EMPLOYEES
Sir—l should like to know in what way we dairy factory workers are compensated for our Sunday and public holiday working. Certainly we get a fortnight's holiday on full pay in winter months, when no privilego of concession is granted on railways. Again, some factories pay an annual bonus, but this worked out does not pay for 10 to 12 hours a day and overtime, Sundays, and public holidays. It is a ridiculous remark His Honour Mr. Justice Stringer made, men worked voluntarily at the trade; if cream or milk was not manufactured what would happen to tie farmer aud the "Almighty law" then? Wo men havo had to be contented as the' Dairy Act expired 19H, when the Prime Minister stated it would he renewed at the end of the war; as the was is over we are now living in hopes of better conditions. The school teachers are eskmg for higher wages. I would gladly change places with any of theni-hours, 9 to 3 o'clock, five days a week; 8 to 12 weeks holiday a year, and all public holidays thrown in-full pay all the time. Is there any trade as poorly paid as dairy working?—l am, etc.,
