BANK NOTE ROBBERY
£300 WORTH STOLEN FROM WILLIS STREET BOARDINGHOUSE A Willis Stifcet boardinghouse was the scene of a big robbery last week, a mm of .£BOO in bank notes being stolen from ai boarder's bedroom. The crime was committed while the person to whom the note belonged was absent in the bathroom having a shave. The .£3OO was made up of notes of various denominations, including JE2O, £\O, and £&, and as soon as they were mis6ed tho polico were informed. Apparently some of tho notes were circulated in Petone, for the polico there mado investigations and learned that a person had got rid of two or thrco and had afterwards proceeded to Palmerston North by motor-car. Farther inquiries were made, and subsequently tlie polico at Auckland effected tho arrest of a man named Robert Burgess, who was charged with having stolen the notes. Wh)?n anprehondod the accused had notes in his possession to the value of .£IBO. Tim accused will 'lie tried in Wel•ton, and will probably be brought up "fcro tho Magistrate's Court early this week.
