THE LOAN BILL
( TO BE INTRODUCED THIS WEEK. The Loan Bill is to be introduced in the House of Representatives this week. The amount of money that the Government intends to ask for authority to borrow has not yet been stated officially, and some of the estimates that have been made, ranging up to £'10 ,000,000, are wide of the mark. Repatriation, including tho settlement of soldiers on the land, will require several additional millions. Hydro-electric development and ordinary public works will also run into millions, although there are indications that owing to shortage of labour ami materials the Government will not be able to spend as much money as it wishes to do in these directions. Tho loans authorised last year included for electric power development and an annual sum of .£1,250,000 for housing, plus an extra million for tho purposes of the advances to local . authorities branch of the State Advances Office. These authorities have not been exhausted.
