HIDE AND TALLOW SALES
The fortnightly sales of hides and tallow were held yesterday by tho various brokers. , Messrs. Dalsetv and Co.. Ltd., report that tlicv offered an avcraje catalotcue of al l classes to a representative attenaanc» of buyers. Competition was keen throughout, and prices for ox and cow hides were on a nar with those realised at last salo, whilst superior yearlinps and calfskins advanced Jd. to 3d. Tallow was firm at last sale's rates. Messrs. Levin ar.d Co. report:-Ont or a total offering of 3200 hides, m addition to calfskins, our dataloene compyised an excellent selection of 1900. most of which were superior conditioned hide?. Prices were somewhat erratic at times, as compared with last sale rates, and sbowed a general decline of from Jd. per lb. to IM. per lb. all round, except for kip and calfskins, which were Blightly in seller favour. Inferior lines were difficult to auit at last Bale's rates, buyers not showing any disposition to onerato on these sorts. The tallow market was firm at a slight decline on last sale rates. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., report :-Wc submitted a. catalogue o£ 11C0 hides and calfskins. The market, from the outset, showed sympathy with the recent- decline In prices ill Australia, and with the exception of stout, heavy-weight-ox last sole's level of values was not maintained. Light hides declined from til, to l}d. per lb:, medium-weights un to 3d. per lb., and heavies other than Btout hidos were easier, by a halfpenny. Oalf were erratic, but "ood to Eunerior lots sold at par with last sale. Tallow was rather eaaier. All cut and slippy lines wero irregular and 'litflcuit to sell. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report that competition was not lteen. except for super lines of ox, cow, and calf. Cut, slippy and • interior lines were neglected. Compared with previous sale's rates, all grades were somewhat easier. Tanners again exercised their ricrht by selecting a fair proportion of tho super lines offered. Tallow was in fair request, at about, last sale's rates, the market showing a slightly firmer tendency.
