The principal holders are not evincing any haste to reduce stocks at present values, and, on the other hand, buyers are showing no disposition to advance, on them. The possibility of export to Britain, is a factor in this, liecent advices ai)» that our oats are quoted at up to 58s. a quarter, c.i.f., equal to 7s. it bivshnl, with an upward movement, and it only needs a freight rate on a par with other produce-to make export commercially possible. At present the freight is .£lO a ton, but a'£s or £1 freight would leave a trade margin on present values. A further Home firming may lead to something being done. There is some activity in oatsheaf chaff, and business has been done on a basis of ,£9,_5.1., f.o.b. Prices to farmej's are from ,£5 10s. to .£6. The grass seed markat.is showing reanimation. Inquiries continue for cocksfoot. A steady Home demand exists for white clover, a machine-dressed line of which, comprising a three-ton lot of good samples, was sold during tlie week for export at 300s. per cwt. A second line was sold at 2905. The potato marketus waiting for something to turn_ up. Ihe Commonwealth expert has arrived, and it is understood that h\a is anxious to expedite matters.
