■ MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. • Messrs. F. Castle (chairman), 0. li. Ohapman, G. Petherick, J. W. M'Ewan, H. Black, F. T. Moore, J. M'Ourdy, \V. J. Thompson, 0. M. Luke, tho ltev. H. Van Staveren, Dr. J. K. Elliott, and Mesdames M'Vicar, Snow, and Carver attended tho monthly meeting o£ the Hospital anjl Charitable Aid Board, held on Thursday afternoon. Mr. G. Nash, who was runner-up at 1 tho last board election, and as such was appointed a member of the board by tho City Council, was accorded a welcome by tho chairman and members. Mr. Nash baa already served for sis years as a member of tho board. Tho .Financo Committee recommended, and it was agreed: (1) That subject to tho consent of the Minister beins obtainod, the necessary materials required for tho proposed installation of the • heating sorvico at the Nurses' Home bo procured— the estimated cost ig JBI6CO. (2) That property, No, 35 Pjpitca Street, has been let on a monthly, tenauoy at £6 per month to Mr, J, Siminouds. '
On the recommendation of the Hospital Committee the following clauses were agreed to:—(1) That a suß-committce comprising Messrs. 0. 31. Luke, J. Smith, and J. W. M'Ewan lias been set up to go into the question of providing a small concrete building fitted with a copper and a range, etc., to serve as an auxiliary cookhouse in oase of emergencies for the fever hospital. (2) That the resignations of Sister Mackenzie and Nurses' Ward and Smitli be accepted with regret. (3) That Mr. V. A, Ward bo appointed junior clerk, vico Mr. E. Oampbell, resigned. (4) That authority bo given tlio medical superintendent to purchase a suspension laryngoscopy apparatus for the use of the eye, ear, nose, and thront specialists on th« honorary stall, estimated cost £100.
The Charitable Aid Committee reported as follows''The month of August showed a slight downward tendenoy in the applications for assistance, the total 'number being nine, of which six originated in tho city and three in out-of-town dietriots. The city applications comprised those of ono widow, three of families whoce bread-win-ners were disabled by siokness, ono vrliero distress was caused by 'voluntary unemployment,' and one through old age. Tim out-of-town cases comprised those of ono widow and two where the wife and family had been deserted by tho male breadwinner, Altogether ten adults and twentyfive children were aflected. It is satisfactory to note thfit in tho case of 'voluntary unemployment; a notification that proceedings would immediately ensue undor the penal clause of the Dostitnto I'erBons Act had an immediato effect.
