LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

HOW MUCH LONGER?

Sir,—Strikes at Taupiri, Auckland, Moeraki, and State mines. Ye gods! How much longer aro tlio decent members of this community going to stand being persecuted. by a few thousand misguided coal miners and wharf labourers? Why don't wo make a stand, and first of all, deport any. foreign-bom residents in the Dominion who are known to bo agitators. ' Then get to work and kick out any men who strike without a really gooa reason for doing 60, and do not reinstate .them; let them go to Russia, or wherwer they like. A law to this effect would, as we are all very well aware, cause trouble, but as it is evident that trouble' must come, nnd soon, the sooner the sano members of our sound little Dominion get to work and take hold the better. The agitators are working for one end, namely to dominate and ruin this tight little country of ours, and until this end is gained or they are kicked out of the placo there will never again be peace or comfort for our wives and families. Plainly, then, if it means war, bloody war, let's havo it, let's get into it. Arc the decent portion of tho community losing their manhood to allow this sort of thing to continue? The country is full of coal and it is the business of t'iie Government to get it out. It's, no : good talking a lot of nonsense about "white" coal aad such claptrjipaswesee in the papers every day. The coal is there waiting to serve us, and should be got out and given to the people. Those who work to prevejit this being done are traitors to the country they live in and should bo dealt with in no uncertain manner. Give them what they are asking for, only do it 60011, in order to make one of fhe best little countries in the world fit to live in.—l am, etc., UP, THE DECENT PEOPLE.
