Federal officials havo been investigating tho explosion which occurred in Wall Street, opposite tho J. P. Morgan offices, and state that tho explosion car- - ried with it iron slugs weighing a pound i or more each. These flew in every dilection, and did considerable damage, f e ' : strengthens the theory that the _ explosion was a bomb outrage. Thouy sands of dollars' worth of securities were r lost as tho result of the explosion. Stockbrokers iei>ort that messengers who were carrying the securities dropped them and ran as soon m tho detonation occurred. UJier messengers disappeared in the contusion, and have not yet returned. Owing to tho growing conviction of the inn estigatora, that the explosion was caus®d by an infernal machine, the Federal j authorities in other large cities have . instructed to look out for similar j occurrences. Strong guards have been Placed around public buildings and the j homes of well-known financiers and com- , mercial men. The number of Injured is now stated to be 200. A. large army of workers, under the light of numerous searchlights, began to clear _ up the debris and repair the damage in the eiplosion area, and within twelve honrs after the detonation the street began to take on a more normal appearance. I A man named Edward Fischer, who sent postcards to his friends warning them of the explosion, has been arrested at Hamilton, Ontario. i Fischer was formerly an employee in 1 the French Commissioner's office in New i York. From Toronto he warnings > to members of the Commissioners staff ■ and a Now York broker, stating that i Wall Street would be blown up on the i 15th (the day before the explosion) in front of tho Morgan offices. Tho care- ■ taker of a tennis club reports .that ■ Fischer personally warned him that an i attempt would bo matlo to blow up tho Morgan building. It is understood that Mr. Palmer (At-torney-General) will ask the next Congress to appropriate extra funds with which tho Department of Justice can institute a ■ and widespread investigation into all forms of radical activities.
