COUNCIL BY-ELECTION
MR. W. J. GAUBIN ELECTED A VERY POOR POLL In the city, at all events, there wa» quite a lively interest manifested in yesterday's by-election poll to fill the vacancy caused by tbe death of Councillor George Frost. The voting went on very steadily throughout tho day, particularly at the Town Hall, Harcourt's, and Bcthuno's, where the polling was particu. Jarly brisk between noon and 2 p.m. The first result camo in from the Baroa liond booth at 7.3 p.m., and the last at 7.85 p.m. from Ohiro Road, which was pretty well a record. Tho election was controlled by Mr. Arthur Ames, ActingChief Returning Officer, and the result, sheet was tallied by Mr. James Ames, junr., of the City Treasurer's office. Tho candidates were Messrs, T. Brindlo (Labour) arid W. J. Gaudin, and the poll resulted in the return of Mr. Gaudin by a majority, of 2233 votes. The detailed results of the polling are as follow:—
Majority for Gaudin, 2239. There were 33,456 names on tho roll, but only 8073 electors recorded their votes.
