AMATEUR ATHLETICS
SPOKT IN THE ASCENDANCY
ANNUAL MEETING OF WELLINGTON CLUB
There was a very encouragiug attendance of members at the annual general meeting ot the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club, which was held in the Y.SI.GA. Kooinslast evening. The president (Mr. A. A. Marryatt) was in the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, which was car--rtcd unanimously, the. chairman Eaid that the position of the club called for congratulation. After thirty-two years of existence the club vas in the strongest position it had been since its inauguration.. Sport from on athletic standpoint waß in the ascendancy throughout the Dominion, and it lehoved all those Wellingtomans who had athletics at heart to help the sport along. Ho regretted that it had not been wsbible to hold the club's championship future last season, but arrangements had hecu mado with the City Council which would assure the meeting beiug held durinjr the present season. It was to the elub'B credit that it possessed such members as Messrs. M'llolm, I Wilson, and Munro, '•■•ho so excelled :u their respective tranches of athletics that they were chosen to toprcsent New Zealand at the Australian championships. Mr. Wilson had also competed at the Olympic Games, held in lielgium, and although he had not won his-champion-ship, he had finished fourth, and a, record | had been established. Concluding, he predicted that the coming season would be attended with rverv success.

It was decided to hold a meeting for the purpose of drawing up a syllalniß of all meetings to be held during the season. Evening mectingß are also, it was resolved, to be held on different city reserves, not solely on the Basin Ecserve.
On the suggestion of Mr. Kitto, it. was decided to undertake an active canvass for honorary members, at an annual subscription of ss,
