proclamation of the measure had at the instance of Sir Joseph Ward been postponed during the continuance of ,the Naional Cabineffbut immediate y upon the dissolution of the Nationa Cabinet Mr Massey had declared that the Act would be brought into force, and a proclamation bo issued accordingly. The proclamation was issued in due course, and the \ct now had its appointed date for coming into operation. It would require legislation, as the motion rightly indicated before that position could bo altered' Though he was prepared to consider anv proposed amendment of tho ■\ct he would" not be a party to any abrogation of the principle or tho effect of the Act. Tho Hon. G. Jones moved the adjournment of the debate till to-day, and tho motion was carried on a division.
