A communication lins been received byline City Council from the Marine /Department relativo to a proposed landing stage and fishermen's facilities at Island Bay for the carrying on of tlin fishing industry. The Finance Committee recommended as a preliminary step (hat the City Engineer lie instructed to confer with the officer.s of the Marino Department, and ■ report. 'J'b. Departmental communication was as follows;—"I am directed by the Minister of Marine to bring before your council the question of assistance to the Island Hay fishermen, to enable them to construct a suitable fish landing, boat slip, and storage sheds in the bay. The Government lias received an application for a grant for the purpose, and «ftor considering the matter the Minister has decided to recommend Cabinet, provided sufficient funds aro available, to place .£1251) ou the Supplementary Estimates, as a subsidy on the .C for .£ basis, the balance to bo provided by the lecal authority interested. I understand that an application from the fishermen has been before your council, and I shall he obliged if you will let me know, whether anything is being dono in the matter. I may say iJiab the* Fishermen's Association has guaranteed, in the event of the structures being erected, to maintain them at its own expwiso in a proper slate of repair to the satisfaction of the Department's officers," The report was adopted.
