COST OF LIVING BONDS
FULL AMOUNT REFUSED TO WOMEN. '■By Telesrranli—Press Association.' Auckland, September 7. In the Arbitration Court to-day, the Judge in several cases refused to grant the full cost cf living bonus of Cs. to female workers, on the ground that tho full bonus .was really intended for married men with a family of three. It was argued by a 'representative of tho Musicians' Union that a woman might be loading an orchestra, and that the wages there were the same for men and women, but His Honour replied that the question of wages dkl not enter into tho matter at all. Miss Cossey, on behalf of tho Tailoresses' Union, urged an incrcaso on certain workers' minimum wages, as tlicy would only get half tho Gs. lwnus, according to the Court's ruling, and they would have' to be contented with 355, a week for another seven months. His Honour remarked that coal and sugar were becoming so scarce that they would not require to spend money on theso items. Mies Cossey said that sugar should certainly be shared. His Honour said that the union would have to bo put on the same basis as workers in the south.
