POTATO MARKET
PROSPECTS IN AUSTRALIA. Mr. Buxton, who was one of the delegates sent ib Australia to seek the lifting of tho embargo against New Zealand potatoes, has returned to Wellington, and will go south to-night to meeu the representatives of the growers in Christchurch. Speaking to a Dominion reporter- last night, Mr. Buxton s;(ated that a prejudico against New Zealand potatoes had been created in Australia by the manner in which the trade had been conducted last year. A considerable quantify of the potatoes exported hud not been properly graded and checked. He believed that he had done something to break down the prejudice by suggesting an efficient method of inspection both by a New Zealand expert and by an expert from Australia. If a proper system could be arranged, there would be a crood prospect of getting potatoes into Australia. The inspec:br to bo sent from Australia would require to be convinced that the potatoes intended for export were free from disease, and especially from powdery scab.
