The conference of delegates of technical education boards yesterday passed a vote of condolence to the relatives of the lnte Mr. G. Frost, who was chairman of the Wellington Technical Education Board, Lieutenant AY. E. Luckman, chief armourer, Wellington, is leaving for Ensland this week to rejoin his unit. Ho will then resign, after over 21 years' service, as lie intends to return to liew Zealand to fo'.low farming pursuits. Lieutenant Luckman holds the (Jucon's nnd King's South African ■ Medals, also l.lio Imperial Long Service Medal. The New Zealand Ordnance staff presented Lieutenant Luckman with substantial gifts prior to his departure, and also handed nini a gift for Mrs. Luckman. The presentation was made by Captain T. J. King, acting-chief ordnance officer.

Mail - , the architect appointed by the Education Department, is a New Zealander. born in Invercargili, where he received his early professional training, and is one of tho most hiifhly qualified architects in New Zealand, being an Associate R.1.8.A., London, special certificate graduate in architecture of the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, tor. Hair was for several years on the staff of the Chief Engineer, N.Z.E., Wellington, and in 1906 undertook a two years' intensive study course at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. While in America, Mr. Man- was employed for some time as designer to the school architect, Richmond. Virginia, and later on the design staff of George B. Post and Sons, architects, New York, as assistant to Mr. G. B. Ford, the now celebrated American authority on housing and town planning. He later proceeded to London for examination by the R.1.8.A., and afterwards returned to New Zealand and practised his profession in Wellington. Since July, 191S, Mr. Mair has been employed in the Defence liepartment as inspector of tho hospital works recently completed.

Mr. Vivian Smith, art master at Wellington Technical College, has been commissioned by the Government to paint a portrait of the late Sergeant R. C. Travis, V.C., D.C.M., M.M., for the Dominion War Museum. The portrait will be m oils, half length life size. Mr. J. G. Rule, assistant chief postmaster at Christchurcli, who is retiring on superannuation, was presented' by the staff with two Morris chairs as a final mark of esteem. Signalman Condon, whose parents live at Khandal'.ah, arrived at Wellington by the Ulimaroa after an absence of seven and a-half years, which period lie spent in the British Navy. He went through the war period in H.M.S. Warspite, and after his furlough will rejoin H.M.S. Veronica at" Auckland. Mr. Hcathcote llelmore, who has gone to England to studv architecture, has been appointed London secretary of tlm Christ's College Old Boys' Association, in succession io Mr. Iv. Tristram Harper, resigned. Mr. C. H. Black, of the Dunedin Deeds Office., lias been promoted to tba position of second assistant land registrar at Christehnrch, and will take up his new duties (his week.
