Ho saM he looked upon tue nresent as a most important stage in the history of the Dominion and of the Empire, and one of the most pressing matters lor the attention of pfople was .that of education. Whether'a policy could be enunc'ated providing for a sound defeneei system, and, at the same time, a proper system of technical education, was a problem requiring solution, and on this matter there was need of 00-ordiination between the' responsible authorities. .Mr. Luke said ha favoured apprentices attending technical .college's in the dayfcmo instead of at niglittime, and be regretted that sufficient consideration had. not been given to technical education in the past by Parliament; Unless more- was done for technical education than had been the case in the past the country would undoubtedly suffer considerably; He wished the conference success in its del berations. ii, Mr. T. ■ Scott (Dunedm) was elected chairman of the conference.
