ATHLETIC CONTESTS
BETWEEN AMERICAN AND BRITISH EMPIRE COMPETITORS. . (Rec. September G, 0.10 a.m.) London, September 4. Tho largest attendance mi record at athletic sports in England witnessed ten events at tho Queon's Club between American competitors in tho Olympic SHincs and a British Umpire team consisting of Olympic competitors and university athletes. G. Davidson and H. E. Wilson (New Xoalandei's), Ecu. T. Hughes (Victorian), and E. V. Dunbar (Queensla-nder) participated. Each side won five events, the Americans taking (he broad jump, <Wfl yards hurdles, and three relay races of four miles, two miles, and J-lfl yards. The British team won the high jump, one mile, and twomile relays, and also (lie linlf-mile relav, in which Davidson finished first by six yards. Thompson, tho Canadian champion, won the 120 yards hurdles in 14 4-5 seconds, wealing a world's record on tho grass— Aiis.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
