MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. jr. Stone, presiding. Also present "•pro Councillors M'Viear, Burnett, Collie, Telford, and Robertshaw. Accounts amounting to ,£421 Is. 9d. were passed for payment. The Mayor reported that the result of tho amalgamation poll was that the proposal had been carried by 47 votes. He stated that although not opposed to amalgamation on general principles, lie was still of opinion that this matter should have been dpalt with from a business point of view. He was strongly of opinion that action should have ( been deferred until the proposed legislation concerning consolidation of loans had been passed. He contended that the Mayor of Wellington must have recognised tho unfairness of amalgamation under present conditions when he undertook to 'brinir the Consolidation of loans Bill before Parliament. Mr. Stone, said he was quite prepared to abide,-hv the decision of the electors, and would continue to devote Ins energies to furthering tho interests of Mirnmar electors ana those of Greater Wellington. All the councillors endorsed the remarks of the Mayor, and referred m appreciative terms' to tie work done by Mr. Stone during his term of ofhee.
