SICKNESS AMONG EX-SOLDIERS
CLAIMS ON WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION. In a report submitted oy the Applications Commiltteo to the council oi the War Relief Association yesterday, tho following passage occurred:— "A number of claims for assistance nave been lodged by men who have resumed civilian life, ana having become subject to the particular circumstances required to manifest an incipient but unsuspected war d.snbility, have suddenly sulfered a breakdown in health, they and their dependants being temporarily without any income whatever. Tho com* miMee has noted with great concern, the large increase in applications of this nature, and special provision has been mado for treatment of the claims. In view of tho largo number of men demobilised in 1919 and 1920, it is obvious that there must be a heavy increase in applications of this nature during tho next two or three years. "A very great deal of time, thought and consideration has been extended to a very largo number of men Buffering physical impairment, entailing various degrees of lass in earning power, whilst there has l«en a very large increase in i.!iie claims received from tubercular men. In many of these ,it is difficult to actually connect the disability with tho man's war service, but tho utmost consideration is extended by your committee. All these claims hnvo been separately recorded, and will followed up until tho pre-war domestic stan-
dard has been re-attained, or until assistanco is no longer required, even though tlia'l position mny not be attained for Eomo considerable time."
