RESIGNATION OF TWO COUNCILLORS DEMANDED. By Teloerauli—l'rcnn Association. Christchurcli, Augusct 31. Tho' Lyttelton Borough Council found itself faced with an unpleasant problem in tho shape of two "tags" on its bal-ance-sheet, and a letter from the Audi-toi'-Gencral (Colonel E. J. Collins) demanding the resignation of two councillors, J. T. Norton and J. 11, Collins, on the ground that they had supplied gcods to the council. Tho "tags" concerned an account for .£25 7s. 3d., paid to Councillor Norton for entertaining children at the Peace celebrations, and, an account for £U Is. Gd., paid to Councillor Collins for supplying ilags for the chil'tlio Mayor 6tated that Councillors Norton and Collins had no idea that in supplying tlio Peacc Celebrations Committee they were supplying the council. After discussion, it was decided that tlio Town Clerk bo sent to Wellington to interview tho Auditor-General, and place the whole of the facts before him, and that while in Wellington tho Town Clerk consult Jlr. T. F. Martin (solicitor to the Municipal Asscciation), tlio object being not only to resist, the unseating ot the two councillors, but also to have tho 'tags" removed from tho balance-sheet.
