A RETURNED SOLDIER'S COMPLAINT
Sir,—Where are our present troubles going to end? What is the cause of it all? I think the Imperial Government was a good deal to blame in increasing prices by offering a 50 per cent, increase in price for meat and produco under the
commandeer. Now the producers want lo eoil to America, because_ they-can: get wore there than in Britain, and 'they want an opon market here 60 that, tha New Zealand .public call be forced to pay as much as can be obtained in America. Where does the love of Empire come in? What is the Welfare League, the Progressive League, and all the other leagues doing about it? Then_ there is the influx of Asiatics. In Vancouver they will not let any unskilled labour enter, even if from New Zealand cr Australia. Here Jlr. Massey says •' it is hard to prevent Chinese landing because they are British subjects from HongKong. Are we going to replace the 15,000 men we lost in the war with yellow cheap labour? If wj want immigration, lcfc.it be from tho country wo fought, for. r —I am, etc., DIGGER. [The above letter has been condensed.!
