At tpie hearing, Mr." O. : Mnzeiigarb, who appeared for the defendants, objected to; the parties being -jointly charged, land also liiieit'oned whether cerlai'n statements made by ;who sent the. boy were evidence against the other defendants.
His Worship said i.ho case was built ud partly on the admissions mndo by seven. employees of the tailoring establishment. that it. had'been thpt practicfl among l|hem to send tho hoy,for cigarette? ami 'tobacco, and partly on n statement inade ! l>v Miss Feat, tho shopassistant,, ''that she had 'been 'in v the hnb.it of supplyf'ng; the men through j.di's particular'message lioy. The Magistrate, held that there was iio offence in sending .the boy for- cigarettes, as the section' Under which the information was laid-wits aimed'at the supplying of cigarettes to a boy for his own use.
