FINER SORTS ADVANCE IN PRICE. London, August 24At tho London wool sale's 11,157 hales were catalogued, of which 32-19 were New Zealand. There was a crowded attendance of Home, Continental, and Lilted . States buyers, and biddings were c ore '. active than for many mouths past. There was a decidedly brisker tone all n und. A capital selection of merinos was offered, particularly of lino hard Continental », sorts,, for which there was good Cni'linental competition, with occasional United States support. Merinos generally advanced 5 to 10 per cent. Choice Geelungs were keenly competed for. Several good greasy lots realised 61(1. Tine crossbreds met with 6trohg demand, and made a 5 tier cent, advance. Medium and lower sorts improved in demand, but prices 'were unchanged. Some lots i:ere withdrawn owing to Government reserves not being reached. Slipes V«re in strong de- ■ niana, and finer sorts ndvanced : > per cent.; -lower qualities were unchanged'. "Ardachy" realised Gld.; "Elderslie," 5Gd.; "Bayrick," Cablo Assn. 'Tessrs. The market is strong for super merin:> and fine crossbred, owl prices are higher from par tii 5 per cent. The market shows no . change for inferior merino and nicdinm crossbred. There is practically no demand for coarse crossbred." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London, house under date August 24:—"London wool sales opened to-day. As compared with la<fc sales' closing rates prices are higher by about j per cent, to 71 -pe r cent, for merino; about 5 per cent, for fine crossbred, and about the same for coarse ond medium crossbred." The Farm'i.r' Co-operative Federation has receive I (he following cablegram from their London office, dated August 21:—"Wool sales opened August 21. liest finality merino, 5 per cent, to 71 per cent, dearer; fine, crossbred, rather dearer; medium crossbred, fair demand, unchanged prices; coarse, neglee.:cd; better Continental competition." . Messrs. Murray. Roberts and Co., Ltd., have received from their London agenw, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray and Co., the following -cablegram, dated August 24:— "Soles have opened. Grensy merino, line, advanced, 5 to 71 per cent.; merino, other descriptions, market shows no change; crossbred, .greasy, line, par to 5 per rent.' advance; crossbred, greasy, medium, market shows no change; crossbred, p.reasy, •..■ coarse, no demand; crossbred, scoured, no i ■ demand."
