AUTOMOBILE CLUB
A committee mcetintr of the Wellineton Automobile Ciub was held on Friday last. Mr. 0. M. Banks reported to the meeting on the remits sent to the New Zealand
Automobile Union, and stated that at tho annual meeting of the union held recently delegates were opposed to flio institution of toll-gates throughout the Dominion. Tho following new members were elected:— Messrs. S. W. Moult, I/. Quinlan, A. Marsdon, and E. H. Wilson. The secretary resorted the progress ot tho safety-first campaign, and stated that favourable replies and suggestions had heen received from the Dunlop Rubber 00. Tlio Taxi-Owners' Association, and Mr. Justice Chapman, also that a. member had suggested that the club should apply to tho council for a light to be rut up on tho Brooklyn Hill, ne.hr Washington A.vcnuo. as several accidents had taken place there recently. ,It was decided to approach the council on the matter. Mr. S. Magnus wrote suggesting that the club chould be represented at a deputation arranged to interview the Prim* Minister with regard to the deviation of tho Paokakariki Itill. It was airrecd that the secretary should interview Mr. W. H. Field. M.P.. on the matter, and arrange that tho club should be represented bv delegates. It was decided to ask tho TVairarapa Automobile Association their views on the subject of the proposed deviation of the JHmntaka Kill as it was understood that Wairarapa. residents were moving in this matter, also if they favour a, tunnel scheme. The secretary was directed to write to Melbourne and Sydney Automobile Associations asking their views with regard to manufacturing motor fuel locally, and il they had taken any action in the matter.
