A HIGHLAND WELCOME
The members of tho Caledonian Society filled their large hall on Tuesday night, when they gave a real Scottish welcomo to their "brither Scot," Mr. Praser Gange, the noted basso oantante, and Miss Amy Evans, the talented dramatio soprano. Until the arrival of their guests the Caledonians passed the timo with song and dancingr. At 10 o'clock the skirl' of tho bagpipes announced the approach of th<\ visitors, and their arrival in the ha.ll was the sign for a rousing welcome. • The chief (Mr. D. Clark, senr.), on behalf of the society, expressed the pleasure it gave Wellington Scots to make their fellow-country-men welcome In this far-oS Dominion, particularly when it fell to their lot to meet those whose fame had preceded them, as had that of Mr. Gango and Miss Evans. Mr. Clark presented the visitors with their membership cards, and the badgo of tho society, as well as enlarged photographs of the original memberß. Mr. Gange thanked tho members for the delightful surprise accorded Miss Evans and himself. Ho assured them that he would be a good member of tho society, and to convince any sceptics as to his nationality he rendered a couple of Auld Scotia's famous songs as only a Scotsman can. The Pipe Band gave several spirited selections, and a team of a dozen juvonile dancers danced a reel. The occasion was taken advantago of to bid bon voyage to the oustodian of the hall, Mr. Dan Logan, who leaves this week on a trip to the Mother Country. '"Aula Lang Sync" terminated a successful Caledonian gathering.
