HOT INTERCHANGE OF COMPLIMENTS. (Reo. August 15, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, August 14. In the Federal House, a. motion by the Prime Minister (Mr. Hughes), for leavo to introduce a Bill to make provision for acceptance of the mandate over the captured German possesions in the Pacific led to a hot interchange of complements between him and Mr. Ryan. The proceedings at times were very lively. Mr. Ryan_ demanded that an idea should be given of the contents of the Bill, Mr. Hughes refused to do this, and told him to wait until the measure was introduced. Mr. Hughes accused Mr. Ryan of attending the Houso only in his spare time, and riot doing enough to earn his Parliamentary salary. Mr. Ryan had his revenge, as the Government failed to secure a quorum of the Houso, and the motion lapsed.—Press Assn.'
