Tho Minister of Labour (Sir William Herries) ivas asked in the House yesterday if Cabinet had reached any decision regarding tho house-building scheme put forward by the Building Trades Federation and Jour leading contracting firms in Wellington. Sir William Herries told Mr, Eraser (Wellington.* Central), who had raised the question, that, tlw scheme was not yet ripe for Cabinet consideration. The delegates had been askeil to consult with the Labour Department regarding the details of the .scheme, and he had not yet received a report from the Department. The Dunedin Master Builders' Asso.CHttion has resolved that it'trill'<lo all in Its power to assist in. building homes ror workers by tendering, provided the Government guarantees to supply materials at a fixed price. The association is 'strongly of opinion that the tendering system is the most satisfactory and clienpcst. Tho association' strongly protests against tho action of the Government in allowing the Board- of Trade to issue'permits for export of so much NewZealand timber; and also urges the Government to arrange a sufficient supply of coal to cement manufacturers.
