Simla, August 2. A huge "hartal" was inaugurated throughout India yesterday as a protest against the Turkish peace terms. Disorders are anticipated, •and military and other precautions have been taken. An exceptionally heavy monsoonal downpour caused the "hartal" to prove something of a fiasco. There were big processions in .some centres, and fierce resolutions were carried; but the great mass of the people are apathetic. The latest advices from Mesopotamia srfato that the military position is unchanged, and there is no indication of a 6pread of the disturbances beyond the present disaffected . districts.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NATIONALIST FORCES CRUMBLING KEMAL DISHEARTENED AND READY TO SUBMIT. , Constantinople, August 2. There is reason to believo that Mustaplia Kenial is disheartened, and ithat his forces are crumbling. He is understood to have deputed Subhi Bey, who recently arrived in the capital, to offer his submission, on condition that an amnesty is granted'him, and Issad Pasha is proclaimed Grand Vizier (Prime Minister), instead of Ferid Pasha, whom the Nationalists regard as their deadliest enemy. -"The Times."
