SYDNEY ROWING HANDICAP
GOOD SHOWING BY ARNST.
Sydney, August 2. Tho nawspapers express appreciation of Arnsfs good showing' in tho Sydney Handicap, after being so long out of the game, and with such short training. Ho mado ft slow 6tart, getting away only half a length ahead ot Ripley. Before lie tcached tho half-mile ho had settled Ripley's chance. Then opening out, and showing much of his ol<l t form, though using o heavy boat which prevented him displaying his best, lie passed Kent and Goodscll; but the distanco to the finish was. too short to enable him to overtake the loaders. William Beach declared "Arnst is the wonder man of sculling,"' and predicted that ho will come back, Regarding Barry, _ Beach said ho gavo a wonderful exhibition. He had never seen anything better. His time for tho race proved that he was "a great bit of stuff."-Press Assn.
