The fortnightly sales of hides and tallow .were hold yesterday by'the various brokers :— Messrs. Palgety and Co. report thats there was better competition for all sound ntdos, and medium and heavies advanced about Id. per lb.; other sound descriptions maintained late rates. Inferior hides, .particularly badly slippy, are extrom6ly diffloult of sale. There was slightly hotter demand for tallow, and we clearad a few parcels at Blightly increased prices. , • ' Messrs. Murray, Eobcrta and Co. submitted a catalogue of WOO hides to a large attendance of buyers. Competition waß animated at a, halfpenny to three-far-things advance on best lines of ox. Cows were erratic, light-weights bejng slightly easior; medium and heavy, par to a farthing higher on some Mb. Wet and slippy, and inferior lots, were dull of sale at a lower range of values. Tallow was caßier by 20s. to* Ms. per ton. Messrs. Levin and 00. adviso that they oubmitted a good oataloguo ofi Mipcrconditioned hides to t.ho usual attendance of tanners and exporters, and prices were somewhat erratic.
