Sir—Councillor Wright with his frozen milk, and Councillor Luckio with .his law, arc drawing a herring across tho scent about tho Featherston winter milk supply. The truth is (hat I wrote offering Is. 9d. per gallon under certain conditions, and this offer had been gone into, with the result that four of the distributing companies banded themselves in committee of supply, legally or illegally, to get that milk, and relieve the drastic situation arising from the lack of it. Two of our delecares went up, and after, a week's deliberation brought the secretary and chairman nf the co-operative back with them, with power to act. On Monday, June 23, I.waited upon Mr. Ward in the matter, and was informed by him that Wellington was independent of tho Featherston supply, as Ihe new cows were "soon" coming in. This was no go-d to u5, so next day, Tuesday, I look the farmers to see the committee, who responded with o stonewall. My next visit was to the Beard of. Trade, and a meeting was arranged fo-r of all parties en the following morning. This was what may be termed, the -lecting of La Fonlainebleau, and quite tho very first condition in the agreement arrived at was the withdrawal of the now no. torioiifi case. The Agricultural Department had neither part nor parcel ,to do with tho little affair, which proved itself a. rabid raid—one more instance of the council's bulldog methods—and ending as all such senseless methods must.—l am, etc..
