MEAT FOR AMERICA
Sir—Wo read that a contention is now ROinpt on whether Jfew Zealand meat should he fold to America or not. One M.P. predicts dire happenings should such an eventuality occur. At the present moment the position is that the stores hoth here and in England nre practically full, and this in face of the fact that the new season is closo upon us. England has a population of 45 millions, America of 100 millions. Surelv it is a very narrow-minded and self-interested person who cannot see the immense trade and prosperity that would follow should the American market be open to the New Zealand producers. Our farmers here seem to he fated to have to submit to price-fixing and restricted competition. My opinion is that America, with its immense population, would buy our Canterbury lamb make a speciality of it, pay a good price, and make it possible for many a man to make a good living on smaller acreages. Also, before this question w finally decided,'every farmer in the conntry should have a voice in the decision, as it personally will affect him, and any. body owning shares or running freezing works should be ruled out, as of course it pays them very well indeed to keep out America, and anyone else who threatens competition. A progressive country is always looking for new markets', null in this case New Zealand has one at her very door.—l am, etc., A FARMER.
