COASTAL STEAMER BEACHED
PAEROA STRIKES ON HOKITIKA BAR. By Telegraph—Press 'Association. 1 Hokitika, July S3. Th(k coastal steamer Paeroa, when crossing the Hokitika bar outwards this afternoon, struck the ground heavily and carried away her stern post and rudder. Temporary steering gear, was fixed,- but the steamer was leaking heavily, and it was found necessary to beach; her one mile to the northward. All on board were landed safely. The vessel had a cargo of sawn timber for Pieton.
