4 u. THE DEFENDER'S TIME ALLOWANCE. New York, My 11. Tho races for the America Cup will he held on July 15, 17, and 20. The American defender Kesolutp. and Sir Thomas Lipton's challenger Shamrock IV, are being measured for tho purpose of determining what time allowance shall be made for tho smaller vessel. It is unoiiicialiy estimated that tho Resolute will obtain'an allowance of six and a half minutes. Sir Thomas Liptou says: "I might say the challenger is the magic key with which I hopo to achieve my lifelong ambition—the win- ; ning of the America Cup. Only tho race will tcti whether it is the right key, but whethor I win or lose, my admiration for the American peoplo will remain, as I will never forget their many kindnesses i to m ."—Aus.-N.Z.
