MAKING COAL SHORTAGE MORE SERIOUS
$ THE STOPPAGE AT HUNTLY. By TcleEraDU.—Press Association. Auckland, July 12. Work was not resumed in the Tuu-' piri Company's extended mine at Huntly to-day, although tho full which had caused the trouble in No. 4 section had been cleared away. Tho reason that the men absented themselves from work is not known to the company's officials, Tho suspension of operations in the mine is very seriouslv accentuating tho coal shortage'. The Extended mine hag beeir idle for 11 days, practically no work having been done since Juno 29. As the normal output is GOO tons daily, this means that tho community has already been deprived of 6600 tons owing to the stoppage. The executive of the union has been in. Auckland, for a week in connection with the drawing up of a now agreement. This was completed to-day, subject to ratification by the union.- It w thought that tho men may be awaiting the return of the executive before starting work, and that thoy may resume 1 to-morrow.
