PLOUGHING COMPETITION

,By Tolegraph.-Bpeoial Correspondent. Marton, My 8. The science of ploughing is most important these- days, when production and more production is required. Tho Warton A. and P. Association, recognising that fact, also that first-class' ploughing materially assists the securing of good orops, has held ploughing competitions for several years past. ' This year the function was held on Mr. A. Poppe's grounds, near Marton, and attracted ploughmen and agriculturists from aJI parts. Big money was offered, and competition in the various events was very keen.

The results were as Mow:—Class A.— Double furrow: P. King, 1; B. Burgess, 2;. A. S. Coleman, 3; I'. Easmussen, 4; 11. C. Coleman, 5. Class 8.-r-Doublo furrow: J. Black, 1; J. E. Finnerniore, 2; P. M. Frederick, 3; P. Miller, i. Points prize in Class A and B.—F. King and J. Black (tie). Best ploughed land on field.—P. King. Beat crown on field.— P. King. Best crown in Glass A.—P. King. Best crown in Class B.—J. Black. Boat finish on field.—P. King. ' Best finish in Class A—P. King. Best finish in Class B.—J. Black. Best four-horse team.—Malison's ]!gtaio, 1; E. Jenkins, 2. Best three-horse team.—J. Black, 1. Best mare on ground.—B. Jenkins. Best kept harness in general use.—J. Black. Best ploughing by genuine wage-earner.—P. King. Strnightest ploughing.—P. King. Longest distance ploughman—G. Hosmussen. Strnightest strike—A. S. Coleman. Best ,1113 and outs.—B.' Maungh. At tho conclusion of tho day's operations, the judges, Messrs.- C 4. M'Kay and J. Court congratulated the winners upon the excellent field work they had shown. Mr, G. Ellis, (Bulls) acted as judgo of the horses, aiid Mr. John Morrison for the rest of the exhibits, of which there was a nice display. D. AVhale secured three firsts, and A. L. Bishop, W. Bobertson, and A. Black each gained first awards also.
