DIOCESAN SYNOD
YESTERDAY'S SITTING CHURCH FIRE INSURANCE SCHEME Tho Diocesan Synod resumed iti sittings yesterday atternoon. Hie lordship tho Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott) presiding. The first hour was devoted to hearing a delegation from the National Dotenca League, headed by Major-General Sir Andrew Kussell. whoso address is reported elsewhere in this issue. After the afternoon tea adjournment, synod resolved on tho motion ,of tho Rev. H. G. Blackburne: "That in tho opinion of this synod tho duty of wel< coming immigrants on behalf of ths Church is of vital importance, and that the fullest support be given by all church people to the scheme undertaken br tho C.KM.S. for carrying out this work."
Synod went into committee on the motion of Mr. J. W. Henderson, to hear particulars of the proposed diocesan fire insuranco scheme, which had been given duo notice of on tho previous day. After resuming in open synod, it was resolved: "That the Ven. Archdeacon Johnson, the Rev. T. F. Taylor, Messrs. H. A, Nevins, E. H. Anderson, and the mover be a committee to introduce at this session of synod a Hill establishing a diocesan fire insuranco scheme."
On tho motion of the Ven. Archdeacon Innes-Jones it was resolved: "That this synod desires to place on record it» high appreciation of the life, character, and work in the cause of education of tho late Miss Mary Francos Barker; who for eight years was lady principal of the Diocesan School for Girls at Marton. That the right reverend the president be respectfully requested to convoy the foregoing resolution to Mrs. Hotker and her family."
On the motion of the Van. Archdeacon A. it." Johnson, it was resolved: "That this synod places on record its high esteem of the life and work of the late Mr. William John Birch, its thankfulness for all his services to this synod, nnd to the church of the province, both of which he served with dignity and unfailing energy; it desires the president to assure Mrs. Birch of its sympathy with her in her irrej>arablo loss." The election of members for the Church School Board resulted in the return of tho following: The lev. J. Hands, Mrs. Henry Smith, Mr. A. E. Mabin, Mr. G". Shirtcliffe. Mr. W. F, Ward.
