KILLED AT LAMBTON STATION
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. An inquest was "held yesterday afternoon by Mr. E. Page, S.M., touching the death of Frederick Thomson, .a single man. aged about 31 years. SeniorSergeant Willis appeared for the police, and Mr. F. A. Dawson for the Railway Department. Deceased wwj a wharf labourer, and resided in Jackson Street, Petone. He was seen attempting to board the 6.14 p.m. train from Lambton Station last Monday. Ho was carryinj a tin of kerosene in a sack over his shoulder. The train had commenced 'o move, and had travelled about twentyfivo yards, when deceased got hold of the gale of the carriage. He fell between two carriages. Dr. Young was summoned, and ordered his removal to the hospital, where his death took place shortly after ten o'clock the same evening.
■ Evidence to 'the abovo effect was given by" ft witness named. M'Kellar and ji railway porter. 'M'Kellar stated' that deceased attempted to open the carriage gate with his free arm, but the weight of the sack he was carrying apparently over-balanced him. Both witnesses called out to deceased before he attempted to board the train, warning him of his danger., _ ■ In returning a. formal verdict, tho Coroner said that the case tended to emohasisß the grave risk of anyme attempting to board a moving train.
