WAR TROPHIES
ALLOCATION OP MACHINE-GUNS. A meeting of tho War Trophies Committee of Group 5 was held in fye Mayor's Boom yesterday afternoon to consider applications for aUocation of machineguns captured by the N.Z.E.F. during tho war, Those present were: The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke. C.M.G,, M.P.), Colonel E; St. J. Beere, D.5.0., Colonel G.Mitcholl, M.P., Mr. W. ,T. Hardham, V.C., representing the Returned Soldiers' Association, and Captain W. M. Bell, Officer Commanding Group 5. Tho number of machine-guns to ho distributed in Wellington city and suburbs is- 41, and applications for trophies wero received from tho Wellington City Council, Kastbourne Boiough Council, Miramar Borough Council, Lower Hutt Borough Council, Eoseneath Schcol Committee, Wellington Bowling Olub, Paraparauniu Domain Committee, residents of Upper Hutt, Johnsonvillo Town Board, Potone Borough Council, and Genord! Headquarters, Wellington. It was dockled to distribute tho guns as follow:— Petone, 4; Lower Hutt, 4; Upper Hutt, 2; Johnsonville, 2, and one to each of tho schools in Wellington city and suburbs. In the case of the schools, applications for guns aro to bo forwarded to I'ho Officer Commanding No. '5 Group, but distributions •Hjill not be made to sohoola in districts where allocations linvo hoeji made to tho loed! authorities.
No allocation cf field guns will bo niado by the committee until al 1 , such trophies oaptured by WlO New Zcnlanders have arrived in tho Dominion.
