BANK MANAGER SHOT
A PECULIAR ACCIDENT.

Mr J Penny, 1 manager of the Rakaia, branch of tho Bank of New Zealand, who is retiring on superannuation this lnont n, after W years' service, was accidentally shot in the abdomen on Saturday. H8 was engaged in the residential portion of tho bank in work connected with his vacating the premises, when an automatic pistol fell to the «°°V^£ P 1" cd the bullet lodging as stated. He was removed to a private hospital in Christchurch and operated npon successfully.
