Palmerston North, Juno 21. / The neather showed an improvement for the third day of the show, and though it was sloppy underfoot the rnin kept off, and there was a fair attendance. The princil>al feature of to-dav's programme was the dog trials, which took .place in tho oval, king witnessed by an interested crowd. The trials will be completed to-morrow morning, and in the afternoon tlwre will be a number of equestrian competitions in the ring. MILK-TESTING COMPETITION. The milk-testing competition attracted 19 competitors, and caused a, good deal of interest. L. Collins, of Palmerston North, and W. Ransome, Bunnythorpe, tied for first place with 94 points each, and A.. Brodrick, A. Law, and C. Dawson, all of Palmerston North, tied (or second with 03 points each. STUD STOCK SALE. The usual breeders' consignment sale was held on the showgrounds to-day; whon there was a very large attendance of cattle men. • Business opened with I'riesian bulls, hut tho only ones which changed • hands were a pair of two-year-olds from Mr. T. H. Overton's Canterbury stud. These were sold at 110 guineas and 50 guineas respectively, the former being purchased by C. G. Cook, of Nelson, and the other by R. A. Wilson, of Bulls. Milking Shorthorns were well represented on tho male side, but there was very little demand. The principal sales were for H. Brown; Auckland, lamaki Nonparicl, at-51 guineas, to J. Watson, Canterbury, and J'nmnki Emigrant 3rd, at U guineas, to G. D. Goodrich, Taihape. Other bulls brought from 20 to 40 guineas, some selling- as low as 10 guineas. There was practically no demand for other classes of bulls, and very little to dono in blie female sections except in the Jerseys, in which [ some very spirited bidding was seen for I cows and heifers from Air. P. Jones, vVoodville, a record of 390 guineas being made. Ihe principal sales of Jersey females wero:—On account of P. Jones, Woodville, Turglish's Clematis, at 390 guineas, to A. E. Weston, Hawera; Sultans Clematis, at 3CO guineas, and Miss Pehine, at 325 guineas, to Murray Bros., Upotiki; Victoria's Charm, at 100 guineas, to E. A. Hanim, Hukanui; Oliarnis Clematis, at. 100 guineas, to R. O'Donnen, Bunnythorpe. Account J. W. Hamlin, Kaimatarau: Miller Turglish, at 70 guineas, to F. A. Tons', Palmerston i I''r, S ! . Darkie, at 66 guineas, }?,?•,?• Philips, Te Rehunga; Turglish s Fancy, at 59 guineas, to 11. Smith, Colyton ;; Patch's Lily, at 55 guineas, to IV-n '-U Kehunga; Turglish's Milky W ay, at 50 guineas, to W. J. Anderson, Lovin. Others sold at from-40 guineas to 48 guineas. Sheop • Dog Trials, The dog trials, which occupied the oval during the day, brought out a great number of competitors, and attracted considerable interest. The open trial was tought. out between well-known sheep-don men, C. Hay (Masterton) and J. R. Cor- - jHawera). The decision went to ■Hays tommy Atkins iy one point. Both dogs put up fine heads, and 'held their sheep weil in line. Corrigan's Marvel experienced some difficulty in seiidin? his sheep across, the bridge, and it was'here that lie fell behind' the fir3t dog's performance, Third place ivaa filled bv L Mansons (Takapau) Storm, the fourth' • Hay s William Wallace, and the nitli by J, Mucdonald'a (Dannevirke) Mae. L. Mnuson's Storm won tho maiden trial, with R. J. Clinic's (Bunnythorpe) Boss second. No third award was made.
