GOBERT DEFEATED BY SHIMIDZU. (R-ec. Juno IA, 8.45 p.m.) London, June 23. At the Wimbledon tennis championships, in the second round, Doust beat Hardy (Amorica), Garland (America) beat Winslow (South Africa), Tilden (America) beat Frankflin, Kingsooto beat Inuian, Schlourker (Holland) beat Misu (France), Drew beat Mtx Deougis (France). In the third round, Shimidzu (Japan) beat Gobert (France), 6-4, 10—8, £— 6, 2—6, o—4. Shimidzu showed superiority in the long driving and beautiful crosscourt 6trokos, Brugnor beat Laurentz (Franoo) and Mavrogordato beat Davson. In the mixed doubles, .in tho first round, Mile. Lenglen and Patterson beat Miss Lance and Bopor Barrett, G—3, 6—o. Miss Lanco is an Australian. As Barrett had no partner he and Miss Lanco wero ofiioiatly paired, though they had never met before, ajid naturally had no ehnnco against tho champions. Other mixed doubles winners wero Mrs. Lambert Chambers and Shimidzu, and Miss l'tyan and Lycett (lost year's champions). In the men's doubles, in the first round, Gobert and Laurentz beat Van Lennep and Soh<mrloer.—Au*«NJJ. Chble Aesn.
