OPENING ON MONDAY NEXT
RULES FOR STUDENTS
Rules for the rnanauement'of the Turnbull Library were laid before the Board of Science and Art yesterday. 'The rules propose that the library shall bo open every day, except Sundays and Government holidays, from 10 a.m. until 4.30 p.m., but 1 in a covering note the librariau (Mr. J. Andersen) says: "While the hours proposed are from 10 a.m. lo 4.30 p.m., I wish to say that I consider,, a great part of the usefulness of the "library, will lie lost unless it is open iu the evening for students, allowing inspection only in the day time; and once the library is' open to the public, I would suggest that it be open, at any rate, until 9 o'clock in the evening.-" The rules provide that the use of the Turnbull Library shall be restricted to the purposes of research and reference. Any person desirous of being admitted as a. reader must apply in writing to the librarian, .specifying the-purpose for. which admission is sought, and must secure a suitable recommendation from a member of the board of management, or eome other person. No reader under the age: of eighteen years will be admitted.' No book or manuscript i 6 to be. removed from tho building under any, circumstances. Various other restnc* tions arc imposed. The board which is responsible for the general supervision of the Turnbull Library made some minor amendments in, the rules. It reduced the age limit from eighteen years to sixteen years. ; The official opening of the Turnbull Library is to take place on Monday next,
