MR. JUSTICE CHAPMAN
RETIREMENT HINTED AT. I By Telegraph—Presß Association. Auckland, June 16. A remark made toy Mr, Justice. Chapman in the Supreme Covrt, that he "thought this would bo his last visit to ' Auckland," wis referred to by the' Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., prior to the adjournment of tho Court to-day. Mr. Tola had, just commenced to address the Judge when His Honour interrupted, saying that representatives of the Law Society hnd called on him and he hnd discouraged any idea of their addressing him, and ho would not like to encourage Mr. Tolo to say anything. Mr. Tole said he simply wished to express the regret of the members of the Bar that this would tie His. Honour's last visit here. They appreciated . the courtesy they had always received from His Honour. He could only express his deep regret that by His Honour's retirement the Bench! would lose so able a Judge. . His Honour said: "It is quite likely you may see mo here again. Perhaps the remark I mado was somewhat hastily made."
