PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

<, Tho Petone Borough Council met on Tuesday, tho Mayor (Mr J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. . Tho Health Ir.spoctor notified thirteen oases of influenza and four cases of other infectious disease in tho district. A letter was received from Mr. G. Mitchell M.P.. acknowledging the 1 receipt of the council's letter advising that It supported the proposals of the Lawrence Borough Council in tho matter of urging tho Government to make tho cost of tho hospital and charitablo aid boards a charge on the Consolidated Fund of tho Dominion. Colonel Mitchell stated in reply that on principle ho would support, tho proposal and would bo nleased to do what ho oould when Parliament met.—Received.

The Pahlatua County Council wrote requesting tho council's support to tho following resolution. —"That the attention of the Prime Ministor bo drawn to the unsatisfactory wording of the Housing Act, 1919, Part V, Section 51, ill which it does not mako provision for tho purchaso of land to erect dwellings or of buildings already erected, and that he' be asked to have' the Act altered In that direction." —Received.

A roply' to tho council's letter, apropos tho allocation of the special shipment of household coal for distribution in tho Wellington district, and with regard to the suggestion to limit deliveries by dealers to one-hundredweight, lota, was received from tho Prime Minister. Mr Massoy stated that the matter was at present being Investigated by tho Board of Trade, who would, no doubt, communlcato with the council in duo conrso.—Received.

Tho secretary of the Wellington Coal Trade Committee advised that arrangements had been made to allocate 50 tons of coal to ho held by the council and stored entirely separately from other su]v plies and to be drawn on for approved oases of sickness, when other supplies am not available.
