♦ REMARKABLE GROWTH IN FIVE . TEARS. (Rec. Juno 15, 8.15 p.m.) Cape Town, June 14. Speaking at the annual congress of Hl9 Federated Chamber of Industries, the Minister of Mines called attention to tho remarkable growth of industries in the last five years. The : output of manufactured' gooils is now sixty-one millions sterling, consuming thirty-four millions' worth of raw materials, of which 53 per cent, was of South African origin. Key industries were being developed rapidly. On the question of State assistance he did not think tho State should undertake to run industries. Assistance should only bo given to industries for national purposes, not to those concluded m private interests. He announced the appointment of an industrial adviser to the Government in the person of Dr. Vanderherg, a South African with considerable United States experience.—Ana.-NX Cable Assn.
