The defendant, who is a pork butcher With premises at 133 Eiddiford Street, Newtown, purchased two calveß, one of .which was slaughtered on iyivato premises at South Karori and the other■ at Miramar, and proceedings were taken against him by the City Corporation under.Bection 17 of the, SlauKhterine ...and Meat Inspection Act for exposing two carcasses of Teal for aalo. It was admitted: (1) That tho defendant purchased two calves; (B) that thoy wero not slaughtered at a'registered abattoir: and (3) that the calves were hung in a back compartment of the shop. Tho Masirtrate, in his judgment, said that .the auestton was whether the defendant by his act of hanging the calves where he did had broueht himself under tho section ]of the Act. Counsel for tho defence had brought the question of exposure to notico in regard to its application under the Licensing Act and the Imperial Act'dealing with margarino and unsound meat.
