■ $ TOLLET WINS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP.' (Rec. June 13, 5.5 p.m.) ! London, June 11. Owing to the presence of Gardner/ tho American, the amateur golf final attracted more pubCdc interest than in uny year since Travis won It in 1901. In a stern ding-dong struggle Gardner was two up at the fourth hole, square at the ninth, led to the eleventh, square at the iwelfth, two up at the eighteenth, and square at the twenty-third. ToUey then led for the first time, was two up at the twentyseventh holo, three at the thirty-second, one at the thirty-fourth. _ Tho players were square at tho thirty-sixth hole, and Tolley won at tho thirty-seventh. Tolley is aged twenty-fouf, is six feet, and weighs list. He began to play golf in his boyhood. He was an efficor in a tank corps, and won fho Military Cross. Ho was a prisoner in Germany for a year. Ho distinguished himself in golf at Oxford, and is a tremendous driver.— Aus.-N.Z. CaMo Assn. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY MISS WETITERED. (Rec. June 13, 5.5 p.m.) London, June 11. In the final of the ladies' championship, Miss Cecil Loitch was four vp on Miss Joyco Wethcred at the seventh lio'.e, and maintained tho lead to the h'ontysecond. Pho was two up at the twentyninth. Miss Wethoiyl won by two up and one to play. Miss Joyce Wethcred ia eightoeii years old, and is a sister of the Oxford golf captain. -Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
