The Per. Father Kimbell,. S.M., haa been offered 'by Dr. Brodie, of Christchurch, charge of the Parish of Temuka at Pleasant Point, South Canterbury. It is understood "that tho Kev. Fathor has accepted tho position.
Mr. W. Eobson, manager of tho Invercargill branch of tho Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to a position in tho head office, Wellington, and expects to loavo Invercargill within tho next fow days. Ho will be succeeded there by Mr. E. M'Phail, nt present accountant in tho Christchurch branch.
Mr. E- Stark, Christchurch electrical engineer, will be leaving this week foi a trip to tho United States.
The head office staff of the Union Steam Ship Company at Dunedin met last Thursday .evening to say good-bye to Mr. W. Smart, on the occasion of his retiring on superannuation from the position of superintending engineer of tho company, and to take the opportunity of making a presentation to him. Tho gen-, eral manager (Mr. Aiken) presided, and said that Mr. Smart had joined the,service as third engineer of the Penguin in August, 1853,. and had thus served 8" years with the company. During' this time, Mr. • Smart had worked through all the various grades, attaining to tho highest position in his department, which he had occupied for the past 17 years. Mr. Eobovt Yeatts, who .has severed his connection with the -Wellington Gas Company aftor twelve and a half yeare' service on tho workshop staff, was met by his fellow workmen last week, and presented with' a leather suitcase. Tlio foreman, Mr. E. B. Parsons, made the presentation,
The commercial staff of The Dominion assembled last week-end to bid farewell to Messrs. L. Follett and A. B. Clark, who have •savored their connection with the paper. In each case a suitable presentation ivas made, which carried with them the good wishes of ths staff. Mr. Follett has accepted an appointment with Messrs. Goldiiigham and Beckett, Ltd., and Mr. Clark is shortly going to the Marlborough district.
'.References to the death of Mr. 0. R. Smith, of Wellington, was made at the last meeting of the Management Committee of the Now Zealand Cricket Council in ChristclniTch by the chairman (Mr. F. C. Raphael. It was stated hy Mr. Raphael that the late Mr. Smith had been the first secretary to the council, and had done a great deal of work in the interests of cricket. On the motion of Mr. Raphael a vote of sympathy with Mrs. Smith was carried. 'A. Press Association message from Sydney announces tills death of Mr- Harry Cos, who was formerly a New Zealand Rugby footballer.
